Oeffelt, The Netherlands - Ceremony

Wednesday 11 May 2022 a ceremony was held in Oeffelt and Gennep, crossing of the Maas.

2 Bailey segments floating above the banks of Oeffelt and Gennep will soon form the tribute to the 1,222-meter (1,126-ton) floating Bailey Bridge that the English sapper Major Edwin Hunt MVO (1920) and Dutch reserve lieutenant ir. Constant Lambrechtsen van Ritthem (✝1994) planned and designed, and which was build between 12 and 20 February 1945 by 7 Army Troops Engineers of the British Second Army. With its staggering length, it was also the longest floating Bailey Bridge of WWII.

We are deeply saddened to share with you that Major Edwin ‘Ted’ Hunt LVO passed away on Saturday 9th July at the age of 102.
