Rededication Ceremony for Lieutenant John Gillis Butt at Hooge Crater Cemetery

A rededication service for Lieutenant John Gillis Butt, Royal Army Medical Corps, took place at 10.00h on Tuesday 9 October 2018 at Hooge Crater Cemetery near Ypres in Belgium.  Lieutenant Butt was attached to 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards when he was killed near Gheluvelt on 29 October 1914 during the First Battle of Ypres.

 

The CWGC marked his grave with a new headstone bearing his name and a personal inscription chosen by his family.  The service has been organised by the Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre, Ministry of Defence and was attended by family members, British Defence Staff, Regimental representatives, CWGC staff and local dignitaries.
