This is a circular cobblestone platform, surrounded by granite, on which stands a granite pedestal. A maple tree once stood in the centre of this base but now is to be found behind the monument. On the rotunda to your right stands a bronze plaque with two bugles in relief, topped by a crown and the word “Patricia’s”.

In the centre is a medallion topped by a crown and encircled with the words “Princess Patricia’s Light Infantry”. Below this are the words: “Here 8 May 1915 ‘the originals’ of P.P.C.L.I. commanded by their founder Major A. Hamilton Gault DSO held firm, counted not the cost”.

On a small column next to the monument is the inscription: “P.P.C.L.I.” This plaque was unveiled by Mrs. Hamilton Gault, on the 13 August 1964 at a remembrance service on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the regiment. “To the honour of all our comrades 1914-1964."
