Remembrance ceremony in Meensel – Kiezegem, Belgium.

On Sunday 07 August 2022 a remembrance ceremony took place on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the retaliatory actions, carried out by the occupying forces on 1 and 11 August 1944, in which 4 fellow citizens were murdered on the spot and 63 of the 91 hostages died in the Neuengamme concentration camp and sub-camps.

-  09.15 am: flower tribute to the monument in Kiezegem

-  10.00 am: commemoration at the museum site, at the Sint Mattheuskerk in Meensel.

- 10.45 am: civil commemoration with name calling of the dead and speeches by mayor Rudi Beeken and lawyer Jos Vander Velpen, followed by a flower tribute at the honorary cemetery of Meensel. Musical support by the harmony Sint-Jozef from O.L.V. Tielt.
