Australian, Son of George and Amy Atkin; husband of Jessie Hamilton Atkin, of East Maitland, New South Wales, Australia.

 

Wellington IC Z1109   05 Mar 4328 Operational Training Unit

Aircraft failed to return from an operational flight, enemy action, near Breskens, Holland, 5 March 1943. Took off 2350 4 Mar 1943 from RAF Wymeswold. Hit by Flak and abandoned by most of the crew after which the Wellington fell into the sea at 0145 5 Mar 1943 off the Dutch port of Vlissingen.
