Loos British Cemetery,  France - Funeral Service.

On Wednesday 12th June 2019 a burial service was held for Private George Alfred Newburn at Loos British Cemetery.

 

Private George Newburn served with the 7th Canadian Infantry Battalion (British Columbia). He died on 15 August 1917 while taking part in the Battle of Hill 70 near Loos-en-Gohelle. His remains were not found after the war, so he was commemorated on the Canadian National Vimy Memorial to the Missing.

 

CWGC will install a headstone on his grave bearing his name, with a personal inscription chosen by his family, and care for his grave in perpetuity.

 

Private Newburn was buried by his regiment in a ceremony organized by the Canadian Army. The burial was attended by family members, representatives of the Government of Canada, the Canadian Army, CWGC staff and local dignitaries.
