Zillebeke Strzelczyk Monument

History (Source: Wikipedia)

In cooperation with the Special Operations Service of Sir Colin Gubbins, the Polish General Conrad Strzelczyk (1895 - 1981) organized the resistance against the Nazis (Allied Resistance Forces - IMOS) all over Europe.  He always managed to stay out of the hands of the Germans and that gave him the name "Sphinx".

On October 6, 1973, the National Administration of IMOSPHINX ACADEMY Belgium unveiled a monument to their founder General Conrad Strzelczyk and all the Polish liberators of our region.  On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the liberation, the monument, under the impulse of IMOS and the 11 November committee Zillebeke, will once again be given an honorable place on Wervikstraat, where it originally belonged.

On October 11, 2019, the monument was unveiled by Mr. De Baerdemaeker, Honorary Consul of the Polish Embassy. Alexander Strzelczyk and Jean-Claude Prukop, great-grandson and great-nephew of the General, scattered on the lawn some earth from the grave of General Strzelczyk, buried in Chorzow – Poland.
