Yves Noel was the 7th of 10 children (5 brothers and 4 sisters) of Louis Damase Noel 1892–1986 and Marie Louise Meche Noel 1892–1945

Grandson of Louis Noel and Marie Emma Bergier and Alcede Meche and Ermine Leger.  Yves was a farm labourer before enlisting.

21 August 1945

Sworn statement regarding the death of Yves Noel:

“On 4 Feb Company B was in Campholz Woods.  About 2130 near the pillbox on N.E. side of woods, Private Noel stepped on a mine while acting as a litter bearer.  Private Noel was instantly killed and several others injured. Later attempt was made to remove his body but this was not feasible due to the mines."

 

27 September 1945

Missing in action status from 4 Feb 1945 until 22 Sept 1945 when evidence considered sufficient to establish the fact of death was received by the Secretary of War from a commander in the European Area.

27 May 1946

The remains of Yves Noel were found by 5 German civilians in an open field near the town of Borg, Germany. 

He then was marked as unknown X-2666.

 

7 June 1946

Remains of X-2666 arrived at the Ardennes American Cemetery and buried 11 June.

 

13 November 1946

X-2666 is now identified as Private Yves Noel

- favourable comparison of tooth chart

- “N-3702” marked on leather band in helmet liner

- “Noel Yves” marked on trousers found on remains

- “94th Division Patch” found on shirt

 

4 December 1946

Correction: Date of Death is 4 February 1945

 

January 1948

Letter sent to father informing his son was permanently interred in the Ardennes.  Date of reburial 23 June 1949
