Vieille-Chapelle New Military Cemetery, France - Burial Service

A burial service was held for an unknown soldier at 3.30pm at Vieille-Chapelle New Military Cemetery on Tuesday 15th October 2019.

The casualty was discovered in 2017 during building work in the commune of Hinges. The artefacts recovered indicate that he was a Commonwealth soldier. Unfortunately, despite extensive research by the UK’s Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre, no further information could be determined.

CWGC will mark his grave with a headstone commemorating him as a ‘Soldier of the Great War, Known unto God.’

The service was attended by British Defence Staff, CWGC staff and local dignitaries.
