Memorial Day 2020 - 2021

MEMORIAL DAY 2020

In order to fulfill our commemorative mission, and in keeping with current precautionary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, all Memorial Day ceremonies will be closed to the public.

As our commemoration duties are of the utmost importance, Memorial Day will be commemorated with small and private wreath laying ceremonies at each ABMC cemetery. Two ceremonies, one at a WWI and another at a WWII cemetery, will be recorded and made available on ABMC social media platforms on May 25, 2020.  The health and safety of our staff and visitors remain one of our priorities. This decision is out of an abundance of caution and aligns with current prevention measures outlined by U.S. and local authorities.

We will continue to honor the memory of our fallen, no matter what the circumstances.

MEMORIAL DAY 2021

ABMC will honor the fallen this Memorial Day, but all ceremonies will be closed to the public.

The American Battle Monuments Commission will honor the fallen this Memorial Day, but due to host-nation COVID-19 guidance and out of an abundance of caution, all ceremonies will be closed to the public.

In those countries where our cemetery grounds are open to the public, the gates will close at a designated time so that ABMC staff and host-nation guests can render the proper honors while respecting social distancing and public gathering restrictions. Please check our operating status on www.abmc.gov/operational-status for updates prior to visiting any ABMC cemetery. We ask that any visiting next-of-kin and/or Veterans please contact the cemetery directly prior to any desired or planned visit around Memorial Day.

To ensure our global audience can still remember with us, the ABMC will broadcast two virtual ceremonies on Memorial Day on Facebook and posted to YouTube @usabmc.
