Opglabbeek, Belgium - Commemoration "Lindenboompje"
Opglabbeek, commemoration on Tuesday 10th September 2025, at the monument “Onder het Lindenboompje”, in honour of the 13 resistance fighters who lost their lives here on September 11, 1944, just before liberation.
On September 11, 1944, three men and three women were led away with their hands on their heads and executed. The execution was in retaliation for retreating German troops, who had earlier that day engaged in a skirmish with resistance fighters in Louwel. Seven resistance fighters were also killed in that conflict.
The names of both the resistance fighters and the six innocent civilians are immortalized on the monument on Elf Septemberlaan in Opglabbeek.
