11,841 German fallen soldiers of the Second World War
The first dead were buried here in 1941 after the fighting for the heights of the Aisne Valley. Further remains were transferred here by the French Graves Commission after 1945. From the summer of 1960 onwards, the German War Graves Commission transferred a further 6,800 fallen soldiers from the Aisne department and the surrounding departments of Aube, Loire, Oise, Seine-et-Marne, and Yonne.
Also buried here are the German soldiers who fell in 1944 during the Allied offensive, particularly during the breakthrough at Avranche and the Battle of the Bulge.
