Leest, Belgium – Remembrance crash Halifax JD259

Tuesday, June 22, 1943, 11:09 PM. Halifax JD259 of the 158 Squadron RAF departs from Lissett, England, along with 556 other Allied aircraft, to bomb the city of Mulheim in Germany. The mission was successful, but on the return journey, Halifax JD259 was driven off course by a German Night Fighter, shot down, and exploded in mid-air. Tragically, all seven young men on board perished.

6 of the crew were buried at the Schoonselhof Cemetery in Antwerp, Belgium, while the 7th crew member's remains were recovered a week later:
