Kessel, Germany, Belgium - Inauguration Ceremony.

On September 18, 1944, no fewer than 131 B-24 aircraft flew to Klein Amerika in Groesbeek to drop supplies for the American paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division. Three of these aircraft were shot down that afternoon by German anti-aircraft fire (Flak).  One of the downed aircraft was the B-24 Liberator ‘Rum Runner’. The plane crashed into the Gossens family farm. In memory of this tragic event, a plaque was unveiled near the farm on September 18, 2024.

Stefan and Anka Gossens, supported by the Heimatverein Kessel, are pleased to welcome you for a memorial service at the renewed plaque.
